PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police say two people who died this week in a motorcycle crash on Roosevelt Boulevard allegedly stole the vehicle and were pursued by police before running a red light and colliding with a minivan.

The crash happened around 9 p.m. Wednesday at Roosevelt Boulevard and Comly Road in Northeast Philadelphia. Police said 34-year-old Robert Donovan was speeding Northbound with a passenger when he ran a red light and struck a minivan making a left turn onto Comly Road.

The motorcycle may have been speeding when it collided with a white minivan around 9:30 p.m., police said.

Both riders were thrown from the motorcycle and later died from their injuries. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the passenger.

The front end of the minivan was smashed. The driver sustained a minor foot injury, police said.

Investigators said a police officer attempted to stop them at Red Lion Road, minutes earlier, after discovering the motorcycle was listed as stolen.

The crash remains under investigation.
