PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — An 18-year-old was shot and killed as he tried to break up a fight at an apartment complex in Roxborough Tuesday night, investigators said.

Police said around 10:45 p.m., a man and a woman were fighting inside an apartment at Valley High Apartments, located off Henry Avenue.

The 18-year-old showed up with some friends and tried to intervene, but the man fatally shot him in the chest, officials said.

“And then for some reason, the 23-year-old who we believed fired the shot jumped out from the fourth-floor window,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small. “He was not injured.”

The shooter stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. He was taken to police headquarters. Charges are pending.

Detectives also recovered the gun.
