PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police continue their investigation into a deadly shooting in the Society Hill section of Philadelphia early Monday morning.
Gunfire erupted on South Front Street near Lombard Street shortly before 3 a.m. A 35-year-old man was shot inside his car. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
Police identified him as Isiah Williams, of Southwest Philadelphia.
Crime scene investigators placed more than 40 yellow evidence markers in the middle of Front Street. A black Buick sedan that was parked on the side of the road across from residences had bullet holes in the driver’s side of the windshield.
Police have not released much about a motive or who may have been involved in the shooting. They say it may have started with a fight at a hookah lounge around the corner.
A joint statement from the Queen Village Neighbors Association and the Society Hill Civic Association said the homicide stemmed from late-night activity on South Street. The groups blame certain businesses for "destroying" the street by attracting people who engage in illegal and dangerous behavior.
The statement went on to say the organizations have been working with the South Street Headhouse District and others to attract more family-friendly establishments.
Investigators went around the neighborhood to see if there were any surveillance cameras that may have captured the incident.
