TRENTON, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Two people were killed and eight were injured after a shooting at a block party in Trenton early Sunday morning. Police are still searching for the gunmen.
It happened just before 12:30 a.m. on the 100 block of Locust Street.
Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora said in a statement that around 200 people had gathered for a large, unauthorized block party. Police said they had stopped by multiple times throughout the night, and cops were near the scene when shots were fired.
Authorities said multiple suspects walked up to the crowd and started shooting.
“There are people in this city and others that are just dastardly and evil, and it doesn’t matter who’s around,” said police director Steve Wilson.
The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office said 33-year-old Tyasiah West and 42-year-old Anthony Howlett, both of Trenton, were killed.
Two women and six men were taken to the hospital, ranging from 23 to 43 years old. Four of the victims were treated and released. Three men, ages 23, 29 and 32, remain in critical condition, and a 42-year-old woman is in the hospital in stable condition.
Police found more than 50 spent shell casings at the scene, and multiple vehicles were hit by gunfire.
No arrests have been made, and authorities are still investigating. The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office encouraged anyone who may have information to reach out at 609-989-6406.
