PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two people have been charged with murder after two men were killed and another was injured in a shootout in Northeast Philadelphia on New Year’s Day, police said.

Around 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, police responded to a reported shooting at Oakland Street and Princeton Avenue, where they found 52-year-old Luis Colon suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the chest.

They rushed him to the hospital, where he died shortly thereafter.

Police said a dark-colored Chrysler 300 fled the scene but later arrived at Temple University Hospital with two more victims. A 21-year-old was shot in the hand; another 21-year-old, identified as Quadir Tull, died.

According to investigators, the group of offenders went to Colon’s house to confront him about his stepdaughter. The offenders are relatives of the stepdaughter’s ex-boyfriend, though he was not with them, police said.

Officials said 44-year-old Cara Williams-Reeves and another woman began assaulting Colon’s stepdaughter and wife on the front lawn. When Colon tried to intervene, police said Tull and Tyriq Williams pulled out guns. Colon also pulled out a gun, and a shootout ensued, officials said.

Upon further investigation, Philadelphia police arrested Cara Williams-Reeves and Tyriq Williams on murder charges and related offenses.

More details are pending.
