PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Authorities have charged a woman and her nephew in a Northeast Philadelphia shootout that left two men dead on New Year's Day. Investigators said it all started with a fight about a ride home on New Year's Eve.
According to Philadelphia police, a woman was arguing with her ex-boyfriend over the phone on Thursday morning about getting a ride from a party the night before.
It escalated, they said, to the point where the ex-boyfriend's brother, aunt and two others drove to the woman's house to confront her. The ex-boyfriend was not with them.
The woman's stepfather and mother tried to intervene.
"A physical altercation ensued between the females at first," said Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore. "And then three individuals — a 52-year-old and two younger males — began, and then at some point, we are told all three produced firearms."
The shootout unfolded around 11:15 a.m. on the front lawn of the house, at Oakland Street and Princeton Avenue.
In the melee, the woman's stepfather, 52-year-old Luis Colon, was shot several times in the chest and died at the hospital. The ex-boyfriend's brother, 21-year-old Quadir Tull, was also fatally shot.
A third person, 21-year-old Tyriq Williams, was shot in the hand. Now, he and the woman detectives said started the fight — 44-year-old Cara Williams-Reeves — have been charged with murder.
"We have one murder in this case, and that's Mr. Colon. The other murder in this case was justified," said Vanore. "They came to his house, started a confrontation, and then everybody, in this case, fired their weapons."
Investigators said Tyriq Williams and Tull pulled out their guns first.
This was the city's first homicide of 2026.
