MEDIA, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is rolling out new body-worn cameras that can translate languages in real time.
Sheriff Siddiq Kamara said the 31 cameras, which will immediately be worn by sheriff’s deputies, are meant to boost transparency and accountability while improving safety for both law enforcement and the public.
“One of the key things that we really focused on with these body cameras is making sure that it’s modernized,” he said.
Sheriff’s deputies demonstrated how the technology can bridge language gaps. A deputy can simply press a button and ask the device to translate conversations to a different language. It can translate more than 50 different languages.
Kamara was joined by County Council Chairman Richard Womack and City Council member Dr. Monica Taylor, who spoke about how the technology will help people who live throughout the county.
