PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Looking for ways to spread a little more Christmas cheer this holiday season?
Delaware County Park Police is hosting their eighth annual Operation Blue Christmas from now until Dec. 22. It’s a special program intended to gift new, unwrapped gifts to kids in need.
“Makes us feel really good to know we can help their Christmas be a little bit better, especially in this time where the cost of everything is going up and some families are struggling to provide those toys for their kids,” said Dan O’Shea with Delaware County Park Police.
Last year they collected more than 2,000 toys to fill their sleigh.
James Neff with Delaware County Park Police says one of their most touching moments was when they helped a family who lost everything in a house fire.
“Christmas morning we went and delivered toys to them, at least 3 or 4 children,” he said.
This year, however, they are falling short of donations, with only about half of what they had in 2022.
“We’re hoping that people rally and come out and support the good cause,” O’Shea said.
Toys can be dropped off at the following locations across the county:
- Government Center: 201 West Front Street, Media, at the ground floor lobby.
- The Fronefield Building: 201 West Front Street, Media.
- Sharon Hill Probation Office: 1600 Calcon Hook Road.
- Chester District Court: 529 Penn Street.
- Park Police Office: 20 South 69th Street, Upper Darby, on the 3rd floor.
- Bureau of Elections Union Power Plant: 2501 Seaport Drive, Chester.
