PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Delaware man could spend the rest of his life in prison for carjacking U.S. Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon (D-PA 5th District) in December 2021.

Josiah Brown, 20, pleaded guilty on Thursday to federal charges.

Prosecutors said Brown pointed a gun at Scanlon in South Philadelphia’s FDR Park, demanded her keys, then drove off. Investigators tracked the car to the parking lot of a shopping center in Newark, Delaware, where they arrested Brown and four teenagers.

Brown was the only person to face federal charges. He is scheduled to be sentenced in June.

Scanlon’s district covers most of Delaware County as well as parts of Philadelphia, Chester and Montgomery counties.
