PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — New Castle County, Delaware police and a bystander helped rescue a 70-year-old woman who was trapped underneath her SUV.

The rescue happened Wednesday on Fieldstone Lane in Newark, Delaware.

According to police, the woman had her arm pinned under the SUV. A good Samaritan attempted to help by using a jack, but it couldn't lift the vehicle high enough to help her escape.

A group of officers came to the scene. They and another man lifted the SUV and pulled her out.

“The quick thinking and physical actions of the bystander and the officers from the Division of Police played a major role in this patient being protected from further injury, and possibly death," New Castle County Emergency Medical Services Division Chief Mark Logemann said in a statement.

The woman was taken to a hospital, where she was listed in serious but stable condition.
