PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A burglary suspect was arrested in Newark, Delaware after a police dog went to work and found him hiding in a basement of a home.

New Castle County Police said K9 Vudu and his handler responded on Saturday night to a burglary in progress call at Saratoga Court in the community of Valley Wood.


According to officials, the dog was given the command to search a basement. Jimi Payne, 25, of Folcroft, Delaware County was located under some blankets. Payne allegedly grabbed Vudu's snout and attempted to push him away.

Officers intervened and were able to take the suspect into custody. One officer suffered a minor injury and was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released. Vudu was not hurt.

Payne was charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree assault, resisting arrest and related offenses.
