Del. spa operator arrested in connection with suspected human trafficking operation

WILMINGTON, Del. (KYW Newsradio) — Police in Delaware have arrested a spa operator in Wilmington after a months-long investigation into suspected human trafficking and illicit activity. They're still searching for the spa's owner.

The focus of the investigation was the Crystal Spa on Foulk Road in North Wilmington. Authorities executed a search warrant at the business on Wednesday and took 71-year-old Nan Son Yim into custody.

Officers also found two men — 78-year-old Thomas Hofer of West Chester and 45-year-old Jesse Wasmer from Maryland — and three women, ages 47, 54 and 56, deemed victims of human trafficking.

Hofer and Wasmer were arrested on misdemeanor counts of trying to solicit a prostitute. Both have since been released.

The three women were allegedly working 12-hour shifts for 7 days a week without proper compensation.

The search warrant also yielded nearly $16,000 in cash, and bulk quantities of condoms and other items consistent with operating an illicit spa.

It also led authorities to search the home of 54-year-old Meilan Quan, the spa owner. Quan is still on the loose and is believed to have ties to New York City.

Yim remains in custody. She and Quan face human trafficking and promoting prostitution charges, among others.
