MEDIA, P.A. (KYW Newsradio) — A special program in Delaware County that helps veterans save money on day-to-day purchases is relaunching an expanded version this year that also includes active duty military members.

The Delaware County Commerce Center’s Veteran ID Discount Program has a little over 50 participating businesses across the county for vets and active duty military members to get up to 15% in discounts on a number of services.

To gain access to the discounts, active duty military just have to show their military ID. Veterans can show either a county-issued veterans card, a veterans healthcare card, or a department of veterans affairs card.

Alyssa Mehalick, the deputy director at the center, said she wants to see even more businesses across the county participate in the program.

“We’d not only like to expand that number, but expand the variety of industries that participate in the program, so we can provide maximum benefits to our actively serving and veteran populations,” she said.

Right now, Mehalick said the range of businesses participating include everything from coffee shops to repair services.

In addition to supporting veterans and active military service members, the program is also big business for the commerce center.

“It’s also a great way from the commerce center perspective to boost our local economy to strengthen businesses,” said Mehalick.

Businesses looking to take part in the program can reach out to the Delaware County Commerce Center.
