PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Philadelphia Police Department says a detective has been arrested for assault, endangering another person and making terroristic threats during an off-duty incident in December.

Commissioner Danielle Outlaw has placed Detective Robert Redanauer under a 30-day suspension "with the intent to dismiss at the end of the 30 days," according to a department news release.

Redanauer faces four misdemeanors, including assault and terroristic threats.

"In order for police officers to effectively do their jobs, it is imperative that they are held to a higher standard – both on and off-duty," said Outlaw in the news release.

Authorities say on December 27th, Redanauer took a gun from a dresser and pointed at two people. He threatened to shoot the first person, who was able to get out of the house. The other person went into his room.

Police would not give further information on the identities of the two people.

The Philadelphia District Attorney's office began its review of possible charges on January 5. Police arrested Redanauer on Tuesday.

"The charges filed against Detective Redanauer are serious in nature, and represent intolerable behavior," Outlaw said in the news release.

"When officers behave in a way that does not honor their oath to protect others from harm, and in fact, create harm, it is made clear that the individual has no place within our ranks and must be removed."
