PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police are looking for a group of dirt bike riders who shot and killed a man in Kensington Monday night.

Around 8 p.m., investigators said six people, split up on three dirt bikes, were in the area of Potter and Huntingdon streets. It is a place in the neighborhood where people hang out — police said there were folding chairs, milk crates and other items.

Several of the men got off their bikes and opened fire, according to Chief Inspector Scott Small.

“Several males begin firing shots across Huntingdon, and that’s where they struck this 55-year-old victim who was on the sidewalk with about six to eight other people,” he said.

Around 40 shots were fired in this targeted attack. The unidentified man was the only one who was hit, police said.

Officers took him to the hospital, where he died. The men on the dirt bikes got away.

Police were not initially sure of a motive. They are looking through surveillance footage from the neighborhood as they continue their investigation.
