WEST PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A viral video showing a man beating a dog and lifting her up by her hind skin led to a tip that brought animal law enforcement officers from the Pennsylvania SPCA to a house in West Philadelphia earlier this week.

There, they found 8-month-old Daisy, the dog seen facing abuse in the video. The owner signed Daisy over to the SPCA and after a forensic investigation, she was medically cleared and is now up for adoption.

Gillian Kocher, a spokesperson for the SPCA, gave credit to the public for saving Daisy.

“We can’t do this work without them,” she said. “We were lucky enough that a Good Samaritan stepped forward because they recognized the individual in question.”

Now, Kocher said Daisy can get the love she deserves.

“She deserves a fresh start and deserves to never be subjected to such an act again,” she said.

The investigation into the abuse Daisy faced is still ongoing and charges could still be filed against her former owner.

If you suspect animal abuse, the Pennsylvania SPCA’s animal cruelty hotline is 866-681-SPCA  or a report can be filed on the organization's website PSPCA.org. All tips can remain anonymous.
