PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Donations of food and personal care items will be collected this weekend to help Delaware County residents in need.

“You have a lot of people who in the shadows are really struggling to get by," said Delaware County Councilman Kevin Madden.

Since April of last year, Delaware County has organized or assisted in more than a dozen food drives to help those in need get by.

“One of the challenges of the pandemic that hasn’t been discussed as much has been the food insecurity issue," said Madden.

"It’s something that we have seen throughout, and it is one that is a part of what we do on a county level...to make sure that those in need are addressed."

Madden cited a comprehensive list of needed items.

“Your standard dry goods, rice and flour, beans and cereal, powdered milk, sugar, salt, instant coffee, things like that," Madden said.

"Personal products, toothpaste, feminine hygiene products, things of that sort are very much in need.”

Donations will be accepted at Drexel Hill Middle School on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A drive-thru system will be in place, and volunteers will be on hand to collect the items from your car in a contactless manner.
