PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police said a 26-year-old man has died, while another was listed in extremely critical condition after being shot seven times during a double shooting at a location in North Philadelphia where investigators found about 70 shell casings.

A suspect was placed in custody after the double shooting, which happened around 6:40 p.m. Monday evening near the corner of North 18th and West Oxford streets in the Cecil B. Moore neighborhood.

Authorities recovered four handguns after the shootings.

Police Inspector D.F. Pace said they believe other shooters were involved, and said they know rifles which they have not located were used.

"At least two of them have extended magazines, high capacity magazines which account for a lot of the shots that were fired here this evening," said Pace.

Pace said several vehicles and homes were also hit, in the area filled with Temple students, public housing, and private homes.

The shooting comes in the wake of an eight-hour period late Sunday and early Monday morning where seven people were shot and killed.

At least a dozen people have died in Philadelphia due to gun violence over Memorial Day weekend.
