PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — More than 50 Philadelphia schools will switch to virtual learning on Friday due to forecasted extreme heat.

The School District of Philadelphia made the announcement Thursday afternoon, noting there are still a number of schools with inadequate cooling systems. Friday will see a high of 94 degrees, with a real feel temperature of 97.

Students were sent home on Thursday with Chromebooks to help with virtual instruction.

All in-person after-school activities are canceled. School field trips are still permitted; students are encouraged to wear light clothing, bring water and stay hydrated throughout the day.
