Drive-thru COVID-19 vaccinations in South Jersey

Camden County Health Department lets drivers get vaccinated without leaving their vehicle

BLACKWOOD, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — A COVID-19 wellness hub has opened at Camden County Community College in Blackwood. For now, it's solely offering vaccines.

Convenience is the key. You don't even have to get out of your car to get a vaccine in the parking lot of the community college.

"You make your appointment, and then you drive in and you get checked in, then you proceed through the line," Rachel Honrychs with the Camden County Health Department said.

"You get your vaccine, you sit in your car for 15 minutes and then you're on your way. It's as easy as that."

She said one of the other keys to the program is to pivot if other public health needs have to be addressed.

"The preliminary design is to be able to adapt to whatever the [necessities are] at that time," Honrychs said. "Right now, the community needs vaccinations, so that's what we're offering here."

Honrychs said they are ready to modify and offer testing, or even flu shots should those needs arise.

"Then in the future, if there's other treatments that would help with your COVID outcome, we would also like to to offer them here," she said.

She explained the wellness hub only can take about 250 people a day by appointment. Right now, it's only open Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m., and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
