GLENOLDEN, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — A driver hit two pedestrians in Delaware County early Wednesday morning, killing one of them, officials said.

Police responded to the scene around 6 a.m. in Glenolden. According to preliminary reports, two women were on Ashland Avenue and crossing Chester Pike when they were struck by a pickup truck.

Investigators did not say who had the right of way at the time.

One woman, age 65, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim, a 36-year-old woman, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police spent hours combing through debris scattered all over the road. Amy Holcombe, who lives right off of Chester Pike, was concerned. She said reckless drivers pass through all the time.

“They fly through the yellow lights. They go through the red lights like they don’t see them, or they go too fast that they can’t stop,” she said of the busy intersection.

She wishes drivers would be more cautious because any of them could be a victim.

“My kid, he’s 13. He takes the dog for a walk. That could have been him,” she added.

The striking driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
