PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man was killed in a head-on car crash with a SEPTA trolley in West Philadelphia early Friday morning.
Around 1:30 a.m., a 32-year-old man in a GMC SUV was going west near 51st Street and Lancaster Avenue, lost control, and slammed into a T1 trolley that was going east, police said.
The SUV spun and ended up on the sidewalk, and the driver was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two trolley passengers were taken to the hospital for minor injuries, SEPTA said. The operator and two other passengers were not hurt.
SEPTA crews towed away the damaged trolley and inspected the tracks before Lancaster Avenue reopened a little after 5:30 a.m.
T1 service resumed normal operations, though SEPTA said passengers could experience residual delays.
