Reward for arrest of hit-and-run driver who left woman in critical condition

The driver also struck and injured two girls, 3 and 13

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A family is pleading to the driver responsible for a hit-and-run crash Monday night in West Philadelphia that sent two children to the hospital, and left a woman in critical condition, to turn themself in. A reward has been offered in the case.

Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 5 is offering a $5,000 reward payable immediately to anyone with information leading to the arrest of the driver.

The crash happened around 9:50 p.m. at 50th Street and Haverford Avenue, where the two streets intersect with 49th Street. At that time, Zerina Grigsby was coming from a corner store with her two nieces.

Philadelphia Police Accident Investigation Division Commanding Officer Mark Overwise said the three of them just finished crossing Haverford Avenue when a car jumped the curb and hit Zerina, the girls and a fire hydrant.

“The driver of the vehicle did not stop to identify themselves or render any aid to any of the victims,” said Overwise. Grigsby, 29, remained in critical condition at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.

The girls — ages 3 and 13 — had bumps and bruises, but are dealing with post-traumatic stress, their family said.

“When you see that video, you can see those two children were inches away from being catastrophically injured as well,” said Overwise.

“I viewed the body-worn [camera] footage after this crash. It was the most catastrophic leg injury I’ve seen in my 30 years.”

Philadelphia police were looking for a dark sedan, possibly a Nissan, and reviewing surveillance video to try to get the car’s license plate.

Anyone with information is being encouraged to contact the Philadelphia Police Accident Investigation Division at 215-685-3131 or by calling or texting their tip line at 215-686-8477..

Zerina’s sister Sabrina Grigsby says her family is praying for justice as they make a plea to the person responsible for the crash.

“I just ask that may God give you a heart posture to return,” said Sabrina Grisgby. “Turn yourself in. Really think about what you have done, and know we forgive you.”
