PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — U.S. Rep. Dwight Evans says he is recovering from a stroke he suffered this week.
Evans, whose 3rd Congressional District includes Northwest and West Philadelphia, said Thursday in a statement that the stroke was minor enough that it took him a few days to realize what had happened.
“I want to emphasize the word ‘minor,’” he said. “The main impact seems to be some difficulty with one leg, which will probably impact my walking for some time, but not my long-term ability to serve the people of Philadelphia,” he said.
The congressman says he’s recovering at an inpatient rehabilitation facility and expects to be there one more week, followed by outpatient therapy.
“I currently expect to be back voting in Washington in about six weeks from now,” said Evans. “I’m focusing on my healing and would ask for privacy during these six weeks.”
Evans has served in the House since 2016, and is a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, including its Subcommittee on Health. His district also includes parts of North, South and Southwest Philadelphia, as well as Center City.
