PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Evan Emerle, 31, of South Jersey, loves to jam on his guitar and host emo nights with his bandmate from their group Code_Emo. But, he’s also a huge Philadelphia sports fan.
In April, those worlds collided when Emerle got to sing Amy Winehouse’s “Valerie” with Eagles left tackle Jordan Mailata at a gig in Bucks County, totally unplanned.
It gave Emerle a greater appreciation for the multi-talented Australian, whose story of becoming a highly-paid left tackle after just recently learning football has already captured the attention of many.
Emerle’s fandom started as a kid, listening to Phillies games on the radio with his father and watching his dad sit on his rocking chair tuning into sports. And all these years later, he’s kept that love for the Phillies and Eagles going.
Emerle cherishes the Eagles Super Bowl LII championship and memories at The Vet — and now, that spur-of-the-moment opportunity to sing with Mailata.
Now all someone has to do is figure out a way for Emerle and Code_Emo to play some songs with unofficial Phillies DJ backup catcher Garrett Stubbs.
