PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — An infant from East Kensington is in the hospital after police said she was physically abused. The parents are in custody.
Philadelphia police said the investigation began on Friday, when the parents, identified as Secret McCleve-Sar, 21, and Tyrone Jones, 22, took their seven-week-old baby to Jefferson Hospital. She had bruising and other serious injuries. Doctors there suggested she be taken to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
Once at CHOP, medical professionals recommended that she be admitted, but Jones removed the baby from the hospital without a medical release, according to police.
Police then went to their home around 4 p.m. on Saturday. They arrested the parents and brought the baby back to CHOP. Both have been charged with aggravated assault, kidnapping, criminal conspiracy, endangering the welfare of a child, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, and obstructing justice.
“The child has clear indications of physical abuse, and the extent of that physical abuse is still under evaluation at the hospital at this time by medical professionals at CHOP," Chief Inspector DF Pace told NBC10.
The Special Victims Unit is investigating.
