Fire at East Germantown auto shop spreads to nearby houses, displaces 5

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police say several people were displaced Monday after a fire at an auto body shop in East Germantown spread to neighboring properties.

Officials arrived at the 6100 block of Belfield Avenue around 12:30 a.m. and found a pile of tires in the back of Powell’s Auto Body Shop engulfed in flames. The fire then spread inside the building and to two adjacent properties.

Police say the fire was extinguished just before 2 a.m. No injuries were reported. According to our newsgathering partners at NBC10, at least five people were displaced.

The fire marshall declared it arson. An investigation is underway.
