PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man was shot and killed inside a bar in East Mount Airy on Monday night.
Police received 911 calls and responded to the report of a shooting at Uptown Cafe at Stenton and Mount Pleasant avenues around 11:30 p.m.
Officers found the 37-year-old shooting victim near a pool table in the back of the bar. He had been shot in the arm and torso and was unresponsive, police said. Officers took him to the hospital, where he died. He was later identified as 38-year-old Kenneth Singleton.
Chief Inspector Scott Small said, based on the ballistic evidence at the scene, they believe at least seven shots were fired.
“We also found a broken pool stick next to that pool table. So there could have been a fight that escalated to the shooting,” Small said.
No one was arrested. Police spoke to witnesses, including one person who was armed but not believed to have been the shooter; Small said the individual turned his weapon in and cooperated with police.
There was a black car parked near the bar that had a gun visible on the center console, but it was not immediately clear if it was the weapon that was used.
Small said they are looking through surveillance footage from inside and outside the bar as they continue to investigate and determine who pulled the trigger and where they went.
