Police: Ex EMS chief used hidden camera to record women, girls in department bathroom

Jason McCully faces invasion of privacy, child pornography charges

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A former emergency medical services (EMS) chief in Berks County is charged with using a hidden camera to unknowingly record women, including some minors, in the bathroom of his department building.

A small camera was discovered back in May in the women's restroom of the Elverson-Honeybrook Area EMS building in Caernarvon Township. It was in a toiletry bag on the sink.

Jason McCully, who was chief of the Elverson-Honeybrook Area EMS at the time, told police the bag belonged to him.

Detectives found "numerous video and digital files" on the camera, several showing women "in various stages of undress," the Berks County District Attorney's Office said. Authorities identified and interviewed eight victims — two of whom were juveniles — who said they had no idea they were being recorded.

Detectives later obtained a search warrant for McCully's home and found additional recording devices. On them, investigators found more images of victims in the same women's restroom.

The inappropriate surveillance took place in the EMS building between October 2021 and May 2022, officials said.

In a statement, the Elverson-Honeybrook Area EMS said it suspended and ultimately fired McCully upon learning of the investigation. The station added: "The organization immediately notified our staff members and worked closely with law enforcement agencies to assist in ensuring that the victims of this crime would be protected."

McCully was charged on Monday with several criminal offenses, including sexual abuse of children, possession of child pornography, possession of a device for intercepting communications, invasion of privacy and related charges.
