WILMINGTON, D.E. (KYW Newsradio) — The ex-husband of former First Lady Jill Biden is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of his wife on Dec. 28 at their residence in Wilmington.

New Castle County Police took 77-year-old William Stevenson into custody on Monday after a weeks-long investigation into the death of 64-year-old Linda Stevenson after a domestic dispute at their residence on the 1300 block of Idlewood Road in Wilmington.

Linda was pronounced dead on Dec. 28 after officers attempted to administer life-saving aid to her.

Before he married Linda, William married former First Lady Jill Biden in February 1970 when he was 23, and she was a student at the University of Delaware. Jill and William divorced in July 1974 after more than four years of marriage. Jill then met Joe Biden when he was a U.S. Senator from Delaware, and the couple married a few years later in 1977.

Stevenson is being held in jail on a $500,000 bail.
