PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Seven people were shot, two of them fatally, at Sixth Street and Allegheny Avenue in Fairhill Tuesday night, according to police.
Police say they received a call for reported gunshots in the area around 8:30 p.m.
They say two of the victims — later identified as 31-year-old Roger Marquez of Lawncrest and 38-year-old Leon Pierre of Frankford — were shot multiple times throughout their bodies and rushed to a nearby hospital where they died nearly 30 minutes later.
Four other men were critically injured in the shooting, including three men in their 30s and a 19-year-old. A 33-year-old man was also shot and is in stable condition. All were rushed to a nearby hospital — some by police, some in private vehicles.
Interim Police Commissioner John Stanford said they recovered more than 70 shell casings and multiple firearms. Multiple cars were also hit with bullets. All the victims were male.
Stanford speculated at the scene that the incident was a drug-related shootout but said he could not say for certain. He did, however, say that the corner is one known to police for drug activity.
“Right now, a very active scene. For what we have at this point, not really sure of all that has occurred out here,” he added. "At this point, we have multiple guns recovered.”
In addition to the firearms, Stanford said some narcotics were recovered at the scene.
No arrests have been announced.
