PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Fairhill community is reeling after a shooting killed two men and injured two others early Father’s Day morning.
Police said Saturday was opening night for Demente Bar on the corner of Fifth and Westmorland streets. Around 3 a.m. Sunday, neighbors said shots rang out from behind bus signs and parked cars, striking four men.
Dozens of bullet casings were scattered over two blocks.
Two died; two others are recovering in the hospital and are expected to be OK.
Just after 6 a.m. on Sunday, police officers placed orange cones around the blood-stained sidewalks outside the bar.
Marisol, a mother of two from the block, said the extreme violence puts everyone in danger.
“You don’t want that to happen to your kids. Be careful. For sure, I’m not safe,” she said.
Manuel, who lives across the street, said incidents like this tend to happen during the summertime.
“They start inside and come outside, and it happens all the time. This happens all the time, especially during summertime.”
Police said no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
