PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A road rage incident in Newark, Delaware, Wednesday afternoon took a turn for the worse when a motorcyclist was shot and killed by a passenger inside a car.

A suspect was tracked down, arrested and charged with murder.

Delaware State Police say 28-year-old William Simpler Jr., of Saint Georges, Delaware, was arrested and charged with Murder First Degree and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.

It's alleged Simpler fatally shot 46-year-old Jason Paoletti of Bear, Delaware at the intersection of Salem Church Road and Old Baltimore Pike in Newark around 1:30 pm.

According to investigators, occupants of a Hyundai Elantra got into a verbal altercation with Paoletti who was riding a motorcycle.

Officials say Simpler, who was the front seat passenger of the car, allegedly shot Paolettie when he stopped at the intersection, got off his bike and reached into the saddle bag.

The police are not saying what he was reaching for.

The driver of the Hyundai took off. The investigation led police to Simpler's home, where the suspect was taken into custody.
