PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — An argument between family members escalated overnight in Strawberry Mansion, and police said one man shot and killed another.
Around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, police were called to a home in the area of 32nd and Diamond streets.
“[Officers] went inside the property. They found a 46-year-old male lying on the floor in the kitchen. He was suffering from two gunshot wounds to his chest,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small.
The victim, identified as Reginald Bates, was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The suspected shooter, a 19-year-old, ran away, but family members helped police identify him, Small said.
At least four shots were fired, and a gun was recovered, police said. A stray shot also caused some property damage.
“That bullet was fired from inside the property, exited the first-floor living room window, and struck a property across the street,” Small said. “No one in that property was struck by gunfire.”
Investigators did not initially say what the argument was about or give the exact relationship between the victim and the shooter. The suspected gunman lived in the house where the shooting occurred, and Bates would visit often, police explained.
