PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 19-year-old man stole a bicycle from a SEPTA bus, pedaled a few blocks, then shot and killed a man in Southwest Philadelphia Wednesday night, police said.
Around 10 p.m., police said the man walked up to a bus at 64th Street and Lindberg Boulevard in Elmwood and took a bike off the front rack.
He then pedaled a few blocks away to 66th Street and Dicks Avenue. There, police said he walked up behind a man near the dumpster of a corner store and shot him multiple times in the back. The victim, also 19, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The shooter left the bike near the corner store.
While police were investigating, the bike’s owner approached officers and said the bike belonged to him, and it was gone when he got off the bus a few blocks away.
Police said the shooter then stole an electric bike and fled the shooting scene.
Investigators apprehended him at 84th Street and Bartram Avenue. He is expected to face homicide charges.
