PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A woman who sped away from police during a traffic stop in South Jersey over the weekend was killed after she crashed into a tree.
Cops pulled over the car on Route 55 in Mantua Township late Sunday.
Prosecutors in Gloucester County said an officer was standing outside of the car with the driver, and police ordered the passenger in the back seat to get out of the vehicle as well.
Instead, officials said the passenger, 41-year-old Holly Hageman, climbed into the driver’s seat and zoomed off — with a 5-year-old also in the car.
State troopers found Hageman 3 miles away, dead, after she plowed into the tree.
The child was hurt but is expected to be OK.
The crash remains under investigation.
