FBI urges anyone tested for COVID-19 at Ventnor lab get retested immediately

VENTNOR, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — A statement issued by the FBI's Newark office regarding a testing lab down the shore leaves many questions that need to be answered. But the FBI's request is clear.

"If you were recently tested for COVID-19 at Infinity Diagnostic Laboratory, located at 6715 Atlantic Avenue, Ventnor N.J., you are urged to be retested as soon as possible," part of the statement reads.

The FBI also wants anyone who got a finger prick blood test at this lab to contact them at NK-Victim-Assistance@FBI.gov.

Why? That wasn't explained in the statement. But it does start with an FDA reminder that "rapid" finger prick blood tests "are antibody tests and should not be used for diagnosing active cases of COVID-19."

KYW Newsradio's broadcast partners at NBC 10 confirmed FBI agents raided the lab on Thursday.

Brian Strahl told NBC 10 he had everyone in his office get tested at this lab. He spoke with the feds after the raid.

"They asked me was the type of test explained to me what each test does?" he explained. "And what type of test we requested? And I said, 'yes, we requested the rapid test with the blood prick in the finger.'"

The FBI statement reads, "Only a test that uses a nasal swab or saliva should be used to diagnose active cases of COVID-19."

"You know, I think giving fake rapid tests makes a bad situation ten times worse," added Strahl.

He says everyone in his office was retested at a different lab.

The FBI said if you come forward with information, "Your response is voluntary but would be useful in a federal investigation."

KYW Newsradio called the lab's office on Saturday morning seeking comment and left a message. Nobody has called back yet.

The lab's voicemail recording hasn't been updated since at least Thursday morning, the same day NBC 10 reports the FBI raid happened.
