NEW JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — Plans are in the works to create a ferry route from New York City to Atlantic City.
Seastreak would operate the ferry route. The company already has two ocean-ready ships that could make the 2.5-hour trip.
Tommy Carr with DEEM Enterprises is helping to facilitate the deal. He said a round-trip ticket would cost $145. It could carry up to 600 passengers and would have TVs and a bar.
“Mayor Small, we had meetings with the City of Atlantic City, the entire administration. We had meetings with all of the casino owners in Atlantic City. We’re meeting with the state. And the good thing is — there was not one person who was against it,” Carr said.
The ferry would dock at the marina near the Golden Nugget, and passengers could catch the jitney from there to get anywhere they want. Carr said they are still working everything out, and it’s not a done deal yet, but they are looking to start it up next Memorial Day.
He said it will likely require some subsidies.
“And that could be either casinos giving out vouchers: if you come to the casino, you get a free round-trip ferry ride. So they’re going to be very creative.”
