PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police in Upper Darby say that a physical fight led to the cancellation of a high school football game between Monsignor Bonner and Archbishop Prendergast High School and Upper Darby High School Friday night.

A large amount of the crowd at the game, hosted by Upper Darby, was seen sprinting across the field, as Upper Darby Police said someone called 911 to report that shots were fired. Police said that report was false.

Police cleared the scene by 9:30 p.m., and the game was canceled. There was no initial word on what led to the fight, or the people who were involved.

Bonner officials said the report of shots fired was, in their words, a "prank."

The incident happened almost one year after the deadly shooting of 8-year-old Fanta Bility at a high school football game in Sharon Hill, also on the opening weekend of high school football games in Pennsylvania.

Authorities say she was likely killed by a bullet from a police officer’s gun as they were investigating reports of shots fired.
