Crews battle fire at vacant Delaware County Memorial Hospital
NBC10

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A fire broke out at the former Delaware County Memorial Hospital Tuesday night.

Building security called 911 to report the fire around 11:45 p.m.

Firefighters found heavy smoke in the building, but Upper Darby Township Fire Chief Nicholas Martin said it took them a minute to find where it was coming from.

“With the property being vacant, obviously there was originally some problems in locating the exact source of the fire,” he said. “There was just a diffuse amount of smoke coming from the building.”

About 75 firefighters responded to the scene, including companies from neighboring townships.

No one was injured.

The building is set to be demolished later this year to clear the way for a new career and technical education center operated by the Upper Darby School District.
