FISHTOWN (KYW Newsradio) — A veterinary hospital in Fishtown is looking for the woman who left a nursing cat mother on its stoop Wednesday without its kittens.
The woman, who was captured on security camera leaving the cat inside a carrier on the steps of the Fishtown Animal Hospital, also wrote a note.
“Please help me. I am a stray that belongs in a home with no other kitties. I think I am pregnant,” the note read.
Dr. Lauren Cohn, the owner and medical director of the animal hospital, said the cat is approximately seven to nine months old and is not pregnant. Instead, she is a nursing mother and time is now of the essence to find the kittens. The kittens are thought to be less than a week old.
"I didn't even need to know the name of the person. I just want to know the location that the cat came from,” said Cohen. “If the cat came from the inside, we want the kittens. We want to help them. We can arrange for someone to pick them up. We are willing to do anything we just want the kittens.”
She said the hospital does have people it can send to trap the kittens, and other volunteers that help animals in situations like this.
Cohen also said the animal hospital is not a shelter, and abandoning an animal out in the cold is not the way to go about getting help.
