PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — This weekend on Flashpoint, host Cherri Gregg asks the burning questions about women in philanthropy.

In recent years, high net worth women - including Mackenzie Scott, Dr. Priscilla Chan and Melinda Gates - have made headlines donating billions of dollars. In addition, women have come together in giving circles with groups raising millions from smaller donations.

But how does this giving differ from the giving of men? What causes do women gravitate to?  What is the broader impact?

Kiersten Marek, founder of Philanthropy Women joins Mary Broach, co-founder of Impact100 Philadelphia and Mary Bentley LaMar, North Atlantic regional director of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. for this discussion.

The newsmaker of the week is the American Rescue Plan. The $1.9 trillion stimulus package was passed by Democrats and signed into law by President Joe Biden this week. It will put money in the pockets of millions of Americans and is touted as one of the biggest anti-poverty bills in generations.

Who will it help? Who is left out? What are the next steps? And what about oversight? Rep. Dwight Evans, who represents the 3rd Congressional District, discusses what Pennsylvanians can expect.

The Patriot Home Care Changemaker of the week is Aminata Sy, founder of African Community Learning Program, a nonprofit she started in her basement.

The organization's focus is to bridge the global divide between Philadelphia students and Sy's native home by creating an African-centered curriculum. She discusses how she helps make the transition into American life easier for youth new to America.
