NEW JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — An employee at a Santander Bank branch in Burlington County has been charged with stealing nearly $1 million from a customer’s account.

Investigators say 41-year-old Agha Hasan befriended the customer and offered to help with bill paying.

As time progressed, Hasan began showing up to the customer's house and getting blank checks signed and wire transfers approved. He also allegedly made large cash withdrawals from the customer’s account.

Investigators say Hasan used this money to fund several of his business ventures including gas stations, car washes, convenience stores, real estate transactions and a consulting firm.

The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office says Hasan took $998,188 from the customer over six years.

He was recently terminated from his position at the Mount Holly Santander branch. He is now facing several second- and third-degree offenses including theft by deception and misapplication of entrusted property, and potentially years behind bars if convicted.
