SPRINGFIELD, P.A. (KYW Newsradio) — The push to regain much-needed health care services in Delaware County took a positive step earlier this week as an investor group purchased the building of the former Springfield Hospital, and there’s plans to bring services back to the site.

Todd Strine, who owns the Delaware County-based Keystone Quality Transport and is one of the new owners of the building, said the plan is “turning around the whole campus” of the former hospital.

“We’re trying to help resurrect these assets and heal the wounds that have been inflicted on Delaware County by the closure of Crozer Health System,” he said. “When you think about Delaware County we used to have six hospitals, now we’re down to two.”

The investment group purchased the site of Springfield Hospital for $1 million from the bankrupt Prospect Medical Holdings, which owned the now-defunct Crozer Health System.

“When you’re in the medical transportation business you’re all about access to care,” said Strine. “This just takes that to the next level.”

He said the new investment group will act as the landlord to the property and hopes to bring in a major regional health system or physician-owned group to operate in the building. Strine’s investment group also purchased the former Taylor Hospital — also previously part of the Crozer Health System — last year.

“I know we’re getting micro-hospitals and that’s great, but let’s face it, we need a 24/7 ER in Delaware County,” said Strine. “Springfield could very easily be an orthopedic hospital. I think Taylor is still perfect as a full-service hospital.”
