PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Bridesburg high school is now responding to video circulating on social media showing students fighting outside and stomping on the head of a 16-year-old boy.

Police say around 2 p.m. Friday, violence broke out among several Franklin Towne Charter High School students and the 16-year-old, who is not a student at the school.

He was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital, where he received treatment for minor cuts, bruises and a possible concussion and was released.

A statement posted on the Franklin Towne Charter High School website reads, in part:

"We confirm a fight took place after dismissal time, and that school officials and Arsenal security personnel responded promptly to the situation. By the time they arrived, most of the persons involved had dispersed. One individual, who was injured on the sidewalk, received immediate attention from emergency services. We’d like to clarify that this individual is not a Franklin Towne Charter High School student. Moreover, law enforcement has confirmed no fatalities occurred as a result of this incident. Rumors suggesting otherwise are inaccurate.

"Franklin Towne Charter High School is committed to the safety and well-being of all our students. We are in the process of reviewing all relevant information and are cooperating fully with the Philadelphia Police Department to ensure a comprehensive response to this incident."

Authorities say the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

"Steps are being taken in accordance with our code of conduct to address the behavior of any students involved," said Franklin Towne Charter CEO, Brianna O'Donnell.

O'Donnell says further updates will be provided, as the school prepares for a safe opening on Monday.
