PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Leadership at a school in Wynnewood is working to find out who left their property marked with a racial slur.
In an email to parents, Friends’ Central head of school Beth Johnson says the graffiti found on the locker was done last weekend.
A parent with knowledge of the incident says the graffiti in question was the N-word.
Johnson says Lower Merion police were notified about the incident and will support any investigation that ensues.
She adds she does not believe it was put there by anyone associated with the school because students did not have access to the gym locker area at the times the incident could have occurred.
Johnson notes their campus is often open to an outside community and believes that’s where the writing came from.
In a statement to KYW Newsradio, school representatives said they are outraged by this act of vandalism and hateful language by someone outside their community.
Friends’ Central School cultivates a diverse community of individuals who are respected and affirmed as they engage in learning and other school experiences.
