PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Fundraising efforts are underway to support the families of the Philadelphia police officer killed in the line of duty over the weekend and the officer who was wounded.
On Oct. 10, 40-year-old Officer Shane Seiber was shot multiple times while responding to a call in West Philadelphia. He succumbed to his injuries later that morning at the hospital. The 10-year veteran leaves behind a wife and two children.
Thirty-three-year-old Officer Hector Rodriguez was shot 12 times. The father of five is in the hospital fighting for his life and he has had several surgeries.
The Philadelphia Police Foundation is asking for donations to support their families. The nonprofit has been raising funds to support Philadelphia police for more than two decades.
“We want to make sure they are not worried about financial stuff right now,” said Maureen Rush, volunteer president of the nonprofit. “The Seiber family — a wife and two children to worry about. The viewing and funeral Monday and Tuesday of next week. And the other officer’s wife is raising five children right now by herself and has a lot of expenses.
“What we really want to do is get as much money as we can into the hands of these families.”
There are also two separate family-approved GoFundMe pages for Seiber and Rodriguez, which can be found here and here. So far, more than $177,000 has been raised between both campaigns.
