TRENTON, N.J. (KYW Newsradio, AP) — Gas prices rose in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and across the nation as a whole following the announcement by major oil-producing countries of plans to cut production.

AAA Mid-Atlantic said Pennsylvania's average price of a regular gallon of gas rose about nine cents in the last week. It stood at $3.87 on Saturday, up from $3.78 from a week ago and $3.40 a year ago.

It said the average price of a gallon of regular gas in New Jersey on Saturday was $3.52, up 14 cents from last week. Drivers were paying $3.26 a gallon on average a year ago at this time.

The New Jersey gas tax fell by a penny per gallon on Oct. 1.

For Delaware, the average price rose nearly $.20 in the last week. An average regular gallon of gas cost $3.52 on Saturday, up from $3.33 last weekend and $3.16 on the second weekend of October 2021.

The national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline was $3.89, an increase of 10 cents from last week. Drivers were paying $3.24 a gallon on average a year ago at this time.

Analysts also cited increased demand and U.S. refinery closures due to maintenance as factors driving up crude prices in addition to OPEC's announced intention to cut production by two million barrels a day.
