PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The former Trump Plaza hotel and casino site on the Atlantic City Boardwalk has a new owner.

Businessman George Norcross and a group of investors have purchased the oceanfront property, which has been on the market for about a year.

Mayor Marty Small Sr. welcomed the purchase, saying it reflects strong investor confidence in Atlantic City. He said the city looks forward to learning more about the development plans.

While no additional casinos will be permitted, Small said the prime oceanfront property offers “tremendous potential.”

In 2021, the 39-story Trump Plaza tower was imploded after falling into such severe disrepair that pieces of concrete were dropping onto the boardwalk.
