PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Maryland man has been accused of shooting and killing a woman he said he mistook for a deer while hunting in Delaware.
The 39-year-old Georgetown woman was shot while out walking with a man and two children in an open field in Ellendale Friday evening, near South Old State Road and East Robbins Road.
According to police, the shot came from 74-year-old Walter Moorhead, from Salisbury, Maryland. He told them he thought the woman was a deer when he fired from a hunting blind on the ground.
Moorhead was arraigned for manslaughter and related charges. He was released after he posted a $43,000 cash bond.
Homicide detectives are still investigating the incident and ask that anyone with information call the Delaware State Police.
