PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A local menstrual health nonprofit is asking for the community’s help after hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of sanitary care products were destroyed in its Germantown facility.
Recent rain and flooding tore through the Spot Period building, collapsing two ceilings and destroying about half a million dollars worth of sanitary products that the organization donates throughout the community.
“By direct exposure or indirect exposure, it damaged the products,” said Lynette Medley, founder and CEO of No More Secrets, which heads the Spot Period on Germantown Avenue.
The organization serves hundreds of women who rely on period products and diapers for their children each week. It has distributed more than 22 million products in 24 months since 2022.
Medley’s team is working around the clock to restock their shelves. The best way to do so is with the community’s help.
“We need more products. A lot of our Always pads, our thick pads, our size 4 and 5 pads were destroyed,” she said. “All of our panty liners were destroyed, so we need those too. Our organic pads from Get Rael were also destroyed.
“So really we need you to reach out to brands and ask them to please replenish their donations to our organization so that we can service our community.”
Once stocked up, Medley said No More Secrets can get back to fighting period poverty.
